Movies that influence pop culture

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=865008

Movies have helped to shape our world, society, lives, and they all make a difference by providing a lesson. Nick Clooney joins NPR's Bob Edwards to talk about his new book called The Movies That Changed Us: Reflections on the Screen. Movies can also change people some people can relate to a certain movie or they appreciate certain genres but movies do include powerful life lessons. I chose this site because I really like movies and I thought this site had some valuable information to share about how influential movies can be. People should visit this site because they can learn about how movies can make a difference in society and there is a list of movies that are from older generations that have made a big impact on the movie pop culture industry. Many people like myself may not be familiar with some of these movies but I think most of us should be familiar with Saving Private Ryan and Star Wars. This site mentions the top 20 movies that have change lives and helped shape the world. Movies are broken down into genres but most movies have stories of love, violence, friendship, and much more. We can relate movies such as Saving Private Ryan to society today based on war and we can relate this to our military troops fighting for our country.

Technology in Pop Culture

http://www.socialtechpop.com/2014/04/women-play-games-smartphones-10-often-men/

This site mentions how much men and women use social media and their mobile devices but I found it interesting that women play games on their phones 10% more often than men. I chose this site because it shows how different genders incorporate technology in their lives and this site shows some statistics and charts which I find very interesting. People should visit this site because it is very informative on how we use technology in our daily lives and they can learn how both genders use it differently. I think the charts and statistics are a great illustration and supports the points made on this site. Men are more likely to use technology for business and dating compared to women and there is so much more informative information on this site. There is a chart for almost everything relating to both genders such as percentage of males and females using a smartphone to use certain apps, go on social media, use a GPS, read the news and so much more.

Popular Music Charts-Pop Culture

http://www.popculturemadness.com/Music/Home.php
This site shows music throughout different time periods and different artists throughout the times. I chose this site because I wanted to know the different kinds of music genres and artists throughout pop culture. People should visit this site because they will hopefully learn to appreciate music and they may even know some of the songs from different generations to now. The site is broken down into PCM yearly charts, PCM's top 100 charts, #1 on Billboard charts, and different song categories. I think this site illustrates music through pop culture because there are still popular songs from older generations that are still popular today such as the song Don't Stop Believin' by Journey. There are different genres of songs and I believe music helps change people's mood, relieve stress, and some people can sometimes relate to the song the musician wrote. People can also find music on this site based on a situation they been through or even if someone is having a bad day or in a bad mood.

Pop Culture-Sixties

http://www.pbs.org/opb/thesixties/topics/culture/

When I first noticed the site I saw this chart in the corner that had 1960-1969 showing how much some stuff was. It is comparing the prices in 1960 to 1969 and it mentions the price of an average house, postage stamp, gallon of gas, dozen eggs, and a gallon of milk. I think people should check this site out since it talks about the history of the sixties and pop culture since it provides some insightful information about pop culture back then and how it has improved today. I chose this site because I noticed some very historical change through pop culture which I think is important to know by learning about your current generation but also earlier generations in pop culture. Back then it mentions that in 1962 there were 6,000 drive in movie theaters but now today many people just go to the box office at the movie theater to see a movie. For music back then they had portable record players, pocket sized transistor radios, and eight track stereos in cars but a famous music group was the Beatles which I believe today is still popular.

Artist makes a point by promoting Anti-rape Posters by showing images of Disney movie examples

http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2014/06/disney-characters-used-in-rape-awareness-posters

An artist of this article had a few examples of Disney movie characters just to promote rape awareness.  The purpose of this article and posters is to create awareness for rape victims and let people know that they should report these kind of incidents to authorities before they get worst. I chose this article because I think it is important to know about since rape happens to almost anyone but the main target is women. I believe people should view this article and posters to become more aware of what rape is and if this happens to them then they should report it to local authorities. I knew a teacher at my high school when I joined the SAVE club ( Students Against Violence Everywhere) and this teacher shared her story with us about the rape situation. The site mentions that 46% of minors who are raped are victims of family members. Just remember that it is never to late to report your attack. The pictures illustrate three Disney princesses kissing men in the movies so this article relates Disney movies to society.

An Early Script of The Wizard of Oz

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/early-script-wizard-oz-offers-rare-glimpse-creation-iconic-film-180951858/
The Wizard of Oz came before the Broadway show Wicked but this movie is such a classic even for the baby boomer time period and for today. The screenwriter based the movie on a 1900 novel for children called The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I chose this site because I really like this movie and appreciate how it starts in black and white and then it includes technicolor which many movies of this time did not have. People should visit this site because it includes history of how this movie started and it has the ruby red slippers Judy Garland wore in the movie and it is also displayed in a museum in Washington. It also compares and contrast the book with the movie but overall this is an incredible site that offers some great information about this movie and how it started. Although the Broadway show Wicked is based on the two witches the movie is based on Dorothy and she has a journey to see the wizard. But the only similarity between the two are the witches- Glinda and the Wicked witch of the West but this article explains them in more detail.

Ferris Bueller Super Bowl Commercial

http://www.mtv.com/news/1678553/ferris-bueller-super-bowl-ad-cheat-sheet/

Football is very popular in this country but overall many people watch it every season. The Superbowl is a  popular event in football where two teams face off in the championship and whoever wins gets the trophy and some Superbowl title. I chose this article because I really like watching the Superbowl commercials but not only that I have seen the movie Ferris Bueller's  Day Off which I think is a popular classic of a movie. Many people should visit this site because it explains the advertising of pop culture on television but this explains the concepts and give viewers a better understanding of what this commercial means. This could be a mix of advertising, sports, and movies since the Superbowl has so many interesting advertisements compared to a normal day of watching television with some very annoying television commercials like those pesky repetitive car commercials or even how stores have sales-like 50 percent off this weekend in the entire store. Overall this commercial brings people together either at Superbowl gatherings or other places but Ferris Bueller is a movie so I think they tried to incorporate this movie into a commercial by doing a twist.
